If you are encountering the "Unable to fetch domain" notification, this article will guide you through the most common causes and their solutions. This error message indicates that our application cannot access your domain due to a permissions or configuration issue.
There are three primary reasons this can happen. Please review each of them to resolve the issue:
Reason 1: Insufficient administrator privileges
Our application requires full Super Admin privileges for the account that is actively using the Signature Manager. This is necessary to access and manage signatures by our application.
Solution: Ensure that the Google account you are using to access the Signature Manager still has the full Super Admin role. At this time, logging in with an account that has lesser permissions, including custom administrator roles with delegated rights, is not supported.
How to check: You can verify your role in the Google Workspace Admin console by navigating to your User details - Admin roles and privileges and checking the Scope of your assigned role, which needs to be the Super Admin for all organizational units.
Reason 2: Administrator is outside of an authorized Organizational Unit
During the application's installation, you are asked to specify which Organizational Units (OUs) the Signature Manager is permitted to access. If the Super Admin account you are using is not located within one of these authorized OUs, the application will be unable to fetch domain data.
Solution: Confirm that your Super Admin account is a member of an OU that has been granted access to the application.
How to check: In the Google Workspace Admin console navigate to Apps - Google Workspace Marketplace apps - Apps list - Free Signature Manager for Gmail - User Access - View organizational units and groups:
In the left column check which OUs do have the grey dot next to its name. Those with the grey dot are those allowed OUs.
Continue by checking if your account is within any of these allowed OUs. Navigate to Directory - Users - your User details - Change organizational units and check if selected OU is matching any of those who are accessible for the Signature Manager app.
Reason 3: Required scopes are not granted
For proper functionality, our app requires a specific set of permissions, known as "scopes," to be approved within your Google Workspace environment. If these scopes are revoked, restricted, or were never fully granted, the app will fail to connect.
Solution: Make sure that all scopes required by our app are allowed and that the app is set to "Trusted." You can manage this in the Admin console for Google Workspace.
- How to check: Navigate to the Google Workspace Admin console - Apps - Google Workspace Marketplace apps - Apps list - Free Signature Manager for Gmail and check under Data access that all Scopes are granted as follows:
